Company  History

RF Consulting Services, Inc was created in 1996 during the peak of the PCS (Personal Communications Services) build out in America. PCS was created by the US government to provide additional frequency spectrum and competition to relieve the popular Cellular networks in this country, thus creating a more competitive marketplace.

RF Consulting was started by Mr. Ted Teofilak for the purpose of supporting the new PCS license winners with the expertise to build a high quality wireless communications networks as quickly as possible as the minimum cost.  This formula for success allows the wireless operators to spend the minimum amount of capital and operational expenses, while simultaneously providing the means to begin receiving revenue as quickly as possible.

Mr. Teofilak's expertise in network design and optimization began in the US Air Force in 1978 and continued with an 8 year employ with Raytheon Company where he performed radio propagation studies for the US Government and trained military personnel on the techniques of designing and deploying  all-digital networks.

Ted's transition from military to commercial communications came in 1991 when he joined BellSouth Mobility in Atlanta, Georgia.  From there he moved to BellSouth PCS in 1994 to begin the 'Greenfield' design and deployment of one of the first PCS (GSM 1900) markets in the country.

In 1996 Mr. Teofilak joined a consulting company called TWS and led the design effort for Sprint PCS in Minneapolis / St. Paul (CDMA).

Later in 1996 Mr. Teofilak created RF Consulting Services taking on small design and consulting projects with such companies as Texas Instruments, MapInfo, AirNet Communications, Powertel and BellSouth PCS.  These projects started out as strictly RF related work (where do we put the radio towers, how tall should they be, what will be the traffic handling capacity, how long will it take to get through zoning, what antennas should we use, etc.).

By 1998 RF Consulting had expanded its service offerings to include site acquisition services (located desirable site locations to place towers or antennas, at an affordable price, with the approval of the local community).

By 1999 we had expanded our services to include microwave network designRF Radiation Hazard studies, Intermodulation studies, Site construction services to include raw land builds, existing tower builds, rooftop sites water tank sites and just about any other type of site that could be built in an efficient and community friendly manner.

In the process of designing and building networks it is also necessary to provide services such as drive testing, propagation modeling & tuning, FCC filings, meeting with planning and zoning boards, as well as a number of other tasks that go along with this type of work.

In 2000 RF Consulting began funding a software company called VerB.  They developed software to help monitor and optimize wireless networks.  VerB produced 4 software products but had little luck with sales.  In 2002 RF Consulting absorbed VerB in exchange for the debt owed and began selling the software under the brand name of VerB (rather than the company name).  Software sales picked up in 2003 as operators realized that they needed to keep their markets running at optimum efficiency while utilizing the minimum number of people.

In 2004 RF Consulting sold the software side of its business to Optimi Corporation in Atlanta, Georgia.  Optimi is now the leading optimization software company in the US and has expanded it operations to Europe, Mexico, South America and Asia.

The key RF Consulting employees joined Optimi for the transition of software & customers.  This transition was completed in March of 2005 and most employees are now back at RF Consulting.
